Chetwynd council discusses ski hill road fix and lodge upgrades

Journey Provincial Bantam II Playoffs End in Chetwynd
Closing ceremonies marked the end of the four day Bantam Tier II Provincial Playoffs with South Okanagan claiming first place. Sixteen teams from zones including Cariboo Peace and Vancouver Island competed as Chetwynd hosted the event. Bill Williams coached South Okanagan with Rick Edwards as trainer and Tunis Vankalkern as manager. The Chetwynd Minor Hockey Association had applied last year to host the tournament.

Kal-Tire Grand Opening Draws City Leaders
Kal-Tire celebrated a grand opening at the Chetwynd branch on Saturday March 24 with Mayor Lasser cutting the ribbon. Martin Neufeld and Archie Stroh watched as officials announced the official ceremonies and a weather friendly picnic followed between 12 and 2 pm. A large semi-trailer of tires arrived for truckload specials and prizes. Contest winners, all from Chetwynd, included Robert Huberdeau for two Vector tires, Lou Suverus for Re-treading Credits, Jean Martin for two Yokohama tires, and Willie Tureski for four Bridgestone tires.

Provincial grants are being cut from 18 000 to 6 000 starting April 1 1984 with backend support by C.A.C.R.S.. local budgets face a 47 000 regional cut. Vernon teacher ends 1100 km walk with hero welcome
Don Thain, 37, an elementary principal from Vernon, thresholded by pain as about 200 supporters greeted him at Kidston elementary after a 500 kilometre five day leg of his 1100 kilometre Vernon to Vancouver trek to raise funds for school computer equipment. He suffered multiple leg injuries in the effort and will require months of rehabilitation on crutches. Despite defeat, locals praised him as a hero and donations push the fund past ten thousand dollars.
