Mayor Reports Bear Troubles Shape Chetwynd Waste Plan
In 2003 Ca Conservation Ort Co logged about 70 bear complaints in Chetwynd, prompting seven black bears to be shot and two relocated. Dry spring and poor berry crop pushed bears toward town. bears found Saskatoon berries and garbage. Town plans to review dumpsters, possibly bearproofing at about 4000 each, or relocate/remove bins, or increase garbage pickup. Fewer bins may force residents to store or truck trash, while encouraging better separation of food waste. Out-of-town residents will be asked to use the dump to curb incursions. More details to follow this spring and summer.
