Snowpack deeper than last year across key basins

February 1978 snow pack in watersheds affecting BC Hydro is below normal for a second year but deeper than 1977 at this time. Hydro foresees higher spring runoff and water levels in most power reservoirs than last year, aided by Williston and McNaughton lake storage. Despite lighter snowfalls in 1977, Williston Lake nearly reached normal levels due to heavy rains. Reservoirs’ large storage capacity should sustain generation even with several lean snowfall years. No generation impairment occurred in 1977 and none is expected soon, though early for firm forecast.
