Brush cutting for Alaska Highway in 1942 remembers Norman List Haeghe
Norman List Haeghe, eighteen, took a job as a truck driver but cut brush on Taylor Hill for the Alaska Highway, a project to link Dawson Creek to Fairbanks in eight months. He recalls heat and mosquitoes, two ferries over the Peace River, and a tragic dynamite fire in Dawson Creek in 1943. He later worked as a fireman, noted 365 miles of freight cars north in 1942-43, and spent 21 years with BC Rail.
