Taxing water rights roils community meeting in SVI
On Tuesday February 18 over 130 residents attended the Ministry of Environment meeting at the Recreation Centre to oppose water taxation for groundwater areas. Dennis Roberts described the discussion paper Sustaining the Water Resource, noting stress from shortages and pollution and saying only Groundwater Control Areas would be taxed to fund water sustainability. Residents challenged government intent and warned taxation could extend beyond shortages, while Roberts urged public input for a sustainable future. The report also notes Windrem School grade sevens camp at Gwillim Lake led by Corporal Randy Keen with rifles and outdoor activities.
