Coal Activity High at Teck Mine Construction Site

Ilmar Kurrusk of Tech Corporation says peak employment will reach 550 in July 1983 as Teck mine construction proceeds. On completion, permanent workers will live in nearby Chetwynd or Tumbler Ridge, with camp facilities provided by the mine. The project includes a 4000 ton silo, rail transfers to two 10,000 ton silos, a 1.7 million tonne annual output, and a large 10-bay maintenance building. A 18 m by 142 m machine shipped via Chetwynd cost about 2.4 million dollars, illustrating the project’s scale. The Northeast Coal Development area saw strong progress despite wet weather, with 75 percent of railway track finished.
