Summer Canada Program Seeks Employer Sponsors
The Employment Development Branch of the Canada Employment and Immigration Commission opens applications for Summer Canada two programs Internships and Community Development. Private and public sector organizations may sponsor internships to provide students job training and rising challenges. Deadlines are March 11 1983 for internships and March 4 1983 for other Summer Canada projects. Special measures assist female native and disabled students. Welder Injured in Gas Plant Accident at Pine River
Courtney Corky Weightman of Westcoast Transmission fell unconscious after inhaling residual hydrogen sulfide while repairing a furnace lining at Pine River Gas Plant. Weightman, wearing a safety harness, remained in Dawson Creek hospital in stable condition. Two other workers were lightly affected. no public danger reported.

Trustees Pass School Budget For District 59
Trustees approved a compliance budget of 19,506,435 for district 59 with a 12 million instruction allotment and 1.7 million operation funds. A 1.5 million Tumpler Ridge operating budget and 672,000 supplement were also passed, plus non operating sinking funds and loans. A policy request to teach creationism in biology was defeated after parent protest led by Donna Sequens.

B C Railway officials presented The Chief Engineers Trophy-1982 to Maintenance of Way Supervisor Deimos Leite of Chetwynd for leading the system in accident frequency. Chief Engineer W Shtenko noted the achievement, with a congratulatory letter from M C Norris.
