The Chetwynd TV Society convenes its annual meeting on March at 7 30 p m at the port terminal. At a special meeting the Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce rescinded an earlier motion not to participate with an Economic Development Officer. A committee will work with C.A.R.D. and Village Council and report in two weeks.
District council denies Chetwynd and Area Resources Development Commission a $1000 grant at the February 22 meeting. Alderman Schmok led the motion to deny with all but Mayor Lasser voting yes. Council will meet with CARD to explain the decision and funding rationale.
A Chetwynd report states Columbia Airlines has not landed there since December and is accused of failing to meet licence conditions. C.A.R.D. complains the service is inadequate and notes Columbia cites no passengers as the reason for not flying, with a letter sent to the Regional Administrator in Vancouver seeking action.
Geraldine Harrington has been hired by Northern Lights College Society through a Canada Community Development Project grant as a Native Access worker at Chetwynd Campus. She will assist Cree heritage Native people in identifying training needs and careers while familiarizing them with the college.
Bob Shirley, an accountant at Canfor and longtime resident, filed for the two year Aldermanic seat in the upcoming civic election. He is a past president of the Chamber of Commerce and Legion Branch No 258. Kieth Massey had filed papers for the two year seat. no one had filed for the one year term as of Thursday.
