Regional committees form to study local issues and hatchery future
Six regional sub committees oversee justice health education and government services with an Economic Diversification Group covering small business tourism agriculture forestry energy and transportation. Two task groups chaired by Betty Deck and Mayor Les Braaten will study sport fisheries and aquaculture to support the Peace Canyon Hatchery at Hudson's Hope, whose future after 1988 is uncertain. Public input via letters to the task groups is invited before March 10.

Canadians are Achievers Canada Speech Contest
Little Giant Toastmasters Club hosts the nationwide Canada Speech Contest on March 7 88 at the Library. The event begins at 7 30 pm and is open to anyone over 18. The theme is Canadians are Achievers and finalists may advance to Ottawa. Contact Christine James at 788 2214 for details.

Celebration 88 awards presented in Chetwynd
MP Frank Oberle led the Chinook Daze parade in Chetwynd and, at Elks Hall, announced Celebration 88 awards recognizing amateur sports supporters. Donna Thompson and Ian McIlvenna were named female and male athletes. Citizen volunteers David Lawson and Alex Mackie were honored alongside sponsors Westgates IGA and others.

Collision damages two vehicles during February incident
On February 16 1988 a Dawson Creek resident’s 1985 Toyota van collided with a 1979 Mercury at Groundbirch causing both vehicles to incur $2000 in damage. The Mercury owner from Baytree Alberta was unhurt. The Toyota owner was charged with Too Fast for Road Conditions and one person sustained injuries. Peter Graham and Debbie Pigeon attended the Businessmen’s Luncheon on February 26 as part of Chinook Daze. Graham notes Powder King skiing is excellent and invites visitors for spring skiing.

Baden Powell Banquet Awards Presented for Donations
Scouts held a banquet where two plaques honored Chetwynd Redimix for land donation and Glen Osterholm, former Scout Leader. Certificates of appreciation were given to Echo, IGA, Highland Helicopters, Royal Canadian Legion, Bank of Commerce, Windrem Elementary School, Chetwynd Secondary School, Hart Home Styles and Upholstery, Jack Ambler, Rod Crawford, and Richard Martin. Elizabeth Deswinge presented the awards.
