Test Spill at Peace Canyon Dam Conducted Sunday

PGBC Hydro performed a small test spill at Peace Canyon Dam on Sunday June 17 to test the spillway operation. The release ran about one hour at roughly 600 cubic metres per second, mirroring a single generation unit’s flow. The dam sits on the Peace River near Hudson's Hope, downstream of the G M Shrum station with 2.7 million kilowatts capacity and the Peace Canyon generating station at 700 000 kilowatts. Spills maintain reservoir and electric system balance, with volume limited by licence requirements and reservoir storage in Dinosaur Reservoir.
