Northern Environmental Action Team and the District of Chetwynd announce a four week public awareness drive on the health of the Pine River sewage system and water supply. Each week focuses on a different aspect to boost community understanding and safe practices through July 15.
The text explains that untreated wastewater contains organic matter and disease organisms. Treatment seeks to remove harmful materials so discharged water does not degrade the receiving stream or spread disease.
The board approved 400000 for a business façade improvement program spread across 20 communities including Chetwynd Dawson Creek and Prince George. Funding remains available for municipalities and regional districts that have yet to apply in 2014. Former Chetwynd mayor Evan Langstad praised the first year’s success.
