Class size and composition drive BC teachers dispute
BC Teachers Federation and BC Public School Employers Union held separate news conferences on June 16 after a weekend of bargaining failing to produce a deal. BCTF President Jim Iker called the weekend talks not intense and said a new Friday proposal was met with a Sunday response viewed as a step back. Education Minister Fassbender said the ball is in the unions’ court as teachers launched a full-scale strike on June 17 with study sessions across the province, aiming to press for changes before the last day of school.
