Tory strongholds to benefit most from child care credit
The Canadian Press analysis shows the largest one time federal cash payment under the enhanced Universal Child Care Benefit will mostly land in suburban ridings around Toronto and Calgary where Conservatives remain strong. It notes 17 of the top 20 beneficiary ridings lean Conservative, with the funds retroactive to January boosting families ahead of October elections. It also mentions parties courting suburban parents and immigrant mothers as key voters, and notes the Bank of Canada expects about half the 2.98 billion to be saved in education plans.
