The Workers' Compensation Board fined nine firms in northeastern British Columbia for health and safety breaches. Flint Canada Inc faced 15000 dollars in penalties for seat belt and related violations, while Fletcher Challenge in Mackenzie received 30000 dollars for excavation and instruction failures. Additional fines ranged from 2500 to 5000 dollars for various infractions including unsafe distances from power lines and unsafe exits. The City of Victoria was fined 15000 dollars after a crane contacted a power line causing worker injuries.
