Ottawa to provide $80 million in back education payments
Ottawa will grant British Columbia $80 million over three years to cover federal funding shortfalls in post secondary education from 1963 to 1977. Education Minister Pat McGeer says the funds correct under funding under the 1972 act, expanding vocational and pre employment programs across universities and colleges. Cliff Adkins urges returning funds to taxpayers, estimating about $100 per household.

Plans to Stop Damming the Peace River Discussed
Peace Valley Environmental Association met July 11 12 at Moberly Lake school to discuss strategy to halt further damming of the Peace River. The group plans to attend a regional anti damming meeting in Prince George September 24 25 and submitted a request to Environment Minister James Nielsen for hearings. Hydro staff to examine sites for potential hydro power in BC
Hydro staff engineers and biologists will visit the Liard River area in northern British Columbia for several weeks this summer to conduct a preliminary examination of hydro electric power generating potential. No drilling will occur. engineers will assess dam sites and rock formations while biologists collect environmental data. Similar field trips are planned for the Stikine River area later this year.

Successful summer camp at Cal-Mo-Tu
A Summer Residential Camp was held at Camp Cal- Mo-Tu on Moberly Lake from July 4 to 9. Organized by multiple regional and city recreation departments, 28 youths aged 12 to 16 attended with six staff, enjoying hiking, orienteering, swimming, sports, canoeing, waterskiing, and overnight camping as a living example of regional recreation delivery.

Forest Service hires 1200 students for summer work
Forest Service will hire about 1,200 high school technical college and university students for summer jobs including office work and helicopter firefighting. Canada MP Frank Oberle of Prince George Peace River welcomed the National Energy Board's report endorsing the Alaska Highway route for a Arctic to southern market natural gas pipeline.
