Court rules on hunting in British Columbia
BC Supreme Court declares illegal a method used to bypass Citizenship requirements for hunting rights. The ruling connects officials including Environment Minister Tony Brummet to knowledge of Canadian citizens holding guiding, outfitting and trapping licences for foreign owners. The case centers on trapper Peter Dumlich and West German plaintiffs Ernst and Wiemers over a trapline and cabin rights on Crown land near Fort St. John. The judgment finds Dumlich registered the trapline and cabins in a way that preserves his possession, though the court notes the outcome is unsatisfactory and the government awaits further action on the cabins.
