Public housing project in Chetwynd rejected by council
Village council shot down a 16 unit public housing plan in Chetwynd at a special meeting. Mayor Oberle and chamber leaders backed the scheme for four years while Aldermen Stewart Hayward Horsewell and Pfanner opposed, saying better options exist. The plan anticipated federal 75 percent funding with provincial 25 percent and a 12.5 percent village operating deficit share, if any, supposedly covered by taxes on the homes.

Six Die As Cessna Crashes Into Mount Wartanbe
Investigators search wreckage of a twin engined Cessna 421 that crashed near Chetwynd killing six aboard. Two Mackenzie men also died in a single engine plane crash 60 miles northeast of Prince George. Names include Douglas Russellant and Gordon Morrison, both from Edmonton, John Marshall of St Albert, Maurice Goddard Charles Lilly and Ashley Barton from Sydney. Victims were returning from a mining survey for Coalition Mining Co. Bodies recovered and coroners inquest planned in Vancouver. Pilot Don Mueller survived with multiple fractures.

Sukunka Valley transmission line and rail link planned
B C Hydro proposes a 37 mile 138000 volt transmission line to serve the Sukunka River valley south of Chetwynd with centreline surveys starting August 1 and construction planned for September 1 1973. A parallel rail right of way from Chetwynd to Twidwell Bend would carry coal lumber and workers to mining sites.

Legion Cash Bingo Supports Ambulance Fund
Legion Branch No 258 faced a low turnout for a Cash Bingo last Saturday raising 23.65 for the Ambulance Society. Attendance was 51 on a chilly rainy evening. a portion of the next Wednesday July 12 bingo will also go to the Ambulance Society for the people of Chetwynd and area.
