Tumbler Ridge Motel to Expand into Full Hotel
The District of Tumbler Ridge Central Homes of Prince George and the town’s bank reached an agreement to expand the 42 room motel by adding ten rooms, a first class restaurant, lounge, 170 seat pub, coffee shop and lobby. The plan ends months of uncertainty about the coal community project. An older plan for a separate 50 room hotel was dropped due to financing. Mayor Pat Walsh noted room shortfalls will remain but a second motel could follow. Work on a service commercial subdivision to replace the Dogpatch area will start soon after eight bids were opened, with McDermid and Lofting submitting the lowest bid near 400,000. Edma Holdings, managing Quintette Mines Ltd real estate, has bought Tumbler Ridge land to build 49 more houses.
