Audit Clears District as Sound Financially
The annual audit by Sander, Wolf and Downie reports the district in a strong financial position. Council notes solid reserves backed by actual cash and strong returns from surplus funds invested through the Municipal Finance Authority. The praise follows last year’s commendations under the prior council led by Mayor Barb Shirley.

New Cree language course launches at Chetwynd Secondary
In February Chetwynd Secondary School began a locally developed Cree language and culture course for grades 10 to 12 with 10 students. Taught by Della Owens, the program aims to connect First Nations and non-native students while offering credits toward graduation and alignment with university language prerequisites. Community leaders Saulteau Vice-Chief Vern Lalonde and native teacher Leo Sabulsky praise the initiative’s cross cultural impact and collaboration with Saulteau and West Moberly Bands. The course, pending continuation next year, was presented to the school board after demonstrating need.
