Seniors discuss housing and transport plan in Chetwynd

A large group of Chetwynd seniors met at the Seniors Hall chaired by Jean Quinn to hear on Windrem Housing timelines and a transit study. Marcie Fofonoff invited women to join a South Peace health study and to gather data for a plan. Meals on Wheels was announced with frozen meals from community kitchens. Ray Cunningham read a Windrem Housing Society letter and outlined government criteria for integrated low income housing. Councillor Dori Martin presented site and building plans with rezoning due Feb 6 and construction hoped by May 27 to finish by December. Bob Nicholson to alert Regional District about outreach to outlying seniors. Queries touched property tax exemptions, pet policies, and cooperative management with residents. The land is 2.9 acres near South Access road and 52 Avenue. BC Transit study and co funding will explore bus options including dial a bus and subsidized taxis. Paul Whiteside of Little Prairie Cabs described Can Am Cruisers mini vans for taxi or wheelchair use with subsidies.

Hospital Auxiliary hosts busy year and new officers

The Chetwynd Hospital Auxiliary held its annual meeting installing new executives with nine members. The Hospital Foundation and Palliative Hospice Society joined, discussing fundraising, donor programs, and plans such as a donor wall and golf tournament to support patient care.
