Village progress report highlights 1973 growth and plans

Mayor Hayward presents 1973 statistics showing 32 building permits totaling 1 061 848 for the year versus 33 permits and 680 268 last year. Water mains reached 814 miles and sewer mains eight miles, with storm sewers at 3 4 mile. Fire department runs 11 calls, 20 volunteers, 953 hydrants. 50 percent service expansion hoped for 1974.

Hospital meeting set for January 30 in Chetwynd

The Chetwynd Hospital Auxiliary invites all community women to its annual general meeting on Wednesday January 30 at 8 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria. Plans for 1973 reports and 1974 officer elections will be discussed, along with updates on the crown subdivision, trailer lots, and proposed airport improvements.

Public meetings planned for Site One dam on Peace River

Public meetings to discuss Site One power project and transmission line on the Peace River will be held in Hudson's Hope Fort St John Dawson Creek and Chetwynd in February. The meetings aim to provide full information from B C Hydro and consultants with copies of the environmental and project reports available locally. The Site 1 dam would be about 150 feet high, create a 2000 acre reservoir, add 700000 kw capacity, and balance flows with the Shrum plant, causing minimal downstream impact.
