Regional policing plan gains provincial OK for Peace River district
Dawson Creek Mayor Wayne Dahlen says the B C Liberal government approved a regionalized policing model for the Peace River Regional District. The plan aims to fold six or seven detachments into one service, funded by a regional formula, with police costs rising to about 8 million and a projected 11.1 million in revenue, while highway patrol and aboriginal policing stay provincially funded. A regional transportation authority proposal was also presented to improve road funding and infrastructure access. The rollout targets bylaw adoption and a summer presentation to Victoria.
