Fire Protection Agreement signed by Saulteau and MLVFD
Saulteau First Nation Chief Stewart Cameron announced two negotiated contracts with the Moberly Lake Volunteer Fire Department creating a Fire Protection Agreement. The five year contracts cover call out fire protection and a service role including hazard checks, safety inspections, and prevention seminars. A joint management team will oversee terms. The deal aims to boost fire protection and lower insurance rates once MLVFD is certified, with a new truck funded in principle by the Department of Indian Affairs. Public meetings and newsletters are planned to share five year objectives and gather community input, targeting 1999 certification.

Northern B C researchers push for Rural Health Research Institute
A UNBC draft proposes a Northern and Rural Health Research Institute to study why northern and rural health status lags, driven by a five year life expectancy gap between Richmond and Cariboo. The NRHRI would be a virtual institute linking UNBC MBC and regional health councils, with global connections.
