Water licence fee hikes push BC Hydro rates up eight percent
British Columbia's government raised water-licence fees, prompting BC Hydro to pass on an eight percent rate increase to consumers without a public hearing. The Utilities Commission approved the move, adding about 0.314 cents per kilowatt hour and an extra 10 to 15 dollars monthly in cold months. Public hearings will examine cost allocations, not the existence of the extra charges. Industry and environmental groups criticized the abrupt rise as harmful and unfair.
