Development would double Peace power
Development would greatly increase the Peace River hydro output. B C Hydro district manager Einar Field notes Bennett Dam currently provides about one third of province power, delivering 1 800 000 kilowatts with eight turbines. A ninth unit in 1974 adds 270 000 kilowatts, a tenth later. downstream dam would add 700 000 kilowatts for a total of 2 360 000. A third dam could match the second.

Canfor Sawmill Resumes Production After Fire Rebuild
Tk Newmill Canfor resumes production at the Chetwynd mill with one shift and full output expected soon. A year after a devastating fire, 85 percent of 200 workers were laid off. 240 will be employed at the rebuilt mill. The $3.6 million rebuild features improved layout, lighting, and safety, with Training in Industry for returning staff.

Traffic notices dominate Chetwynd road checks
In Chetwynd during 291 hours 265 vehicles were checked with four highway patrol prosecutions and one general duty case. Two drivers had licences suspended and one breathalyzer test submitted by RCMP. Traffic notices highlighted vehicle defects and licence, registration, and insurance checks. Cst. R. L. Ogilvie notes overall cautious driving season.

Hydro pays up grants to B C municipalities in 1973
In 1973 B C Hydro paid 120 municipalities grants and school taxes totaling 21.2 million dollars. Chetwynd received 12 864.86 in school taxes and grants. Hydro does not pay general taxes but grants are made based on prior year tax equivalents and one percent of gross electricity sales. in unorganized areas payments go to the provincial government. Smaller grants go to regional districts and utility entities.

Funeral services were held December 31 1973 at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall Chetwynd B C for Radio Seaman Raymond Hauck who died December 26 1973 in Esquimalt B C. Born March 10 1953 in Edmonton he served on H M C S Aquappelle and H M C S Kootenay including Peace Patrol duties off Asia and San Diego. He died in a motorcycle accident on the eve of a Christmas furlough with H M C S Kootenay mate Ron Redling acting as honor guard.
