Prince George teacher pleads guilty to hunting charges

Donald William Wilkins a 58-year-old Prince George high school teacher and outdoors enthusiast pleaded guilty in Dawson Creek provincial court to four hunting related charges. He was sentenced to 4000 dollars total with 3500 directed to Habitat Conservation Trust Fund and two years probation plus a conditional discharge for public mischief. He admitted to discharging a firearm in a no shooting area unlawful possession of dead wildlife and making a false statement under the Wildlife Act. The case involved a youth with an LEH permit during an elk hunt near Ducks Unlimited Bissette Creek south of Dawson Creek. The youth fired in a no shooting area near homes. The judge noted the deceitful conduct warranted substantial penalties and Wilkins is barred from hunting or handling wildlife or firearms for two years except for licensed trapping related teaching.
