Council stuck between a rock and a hard place
Chetwynd council, advised by Liza Powell, says it cannot act further against Robert James Joyce who lives in a complex with about 40 children nearby. Mayor Lasser notes legal limits but encourages community petitions as he weighs Charter rights. Powell seeks RCMP court action to amend the Recognizance Order restricting Joyce’s residence near families with children.

Council briefs discuss community kiln project and vehicle purchases
Yvonne Eldon urged council to back a community kiln as a cottage industry creating jobs though big mills don’t sort wood. Mayor Lasser backed a full community vote, while council plans buy five vehicles totaling about 177,904 dollars and extend an animal control contract to Dale Williard. Lasser pressed for gas rate hearings, noting uneven BC Gas pricing across the province. A bylaw enforcement shift sees Al Hendry as Public Works director becoming Bylaw Enforcement Officer and Bob Lafleur as Deputy Bylaw Enforcement Officer.
