BC announces $162 million in unconditional municipal grants
Finance Minister Hugh Curtis announced 1981 unconditional grants totaling 162 million dollars, up 23 percent from 1980, with most municipalities receiving sizable increases. He warned the rise is a one-year catch up tied to 1979-80-81 resource revenues and that next year’s funding may be much lower, urging prudent budgeting and avoiding long term commitments based on this year's grants.
