Caton elected Vice-Chair as Peace River district chair chosen

Peace River District Approves 9 1 1 Emergency Service by 2000
The Peace River Regional District votes to implement a 9 1 1 emergency system for all residents by end of 2000 with Dawson Creek RCMP Communications Centre as the hub. Calls will reveal name phone and address. police ambulance and fire respond via regional dispatch. a major addressing project will assign home addresses region wide. The plan costs 634000 in 2000 and 550000 in 2001 onward with about 10 dollars annual tax per resident. no borrowing. Special O 1 1 dispatchers will be hired and residences must display addresses in late 2000.
