Tourism hit as Chetwynd council rejects tourism contract
The District of Chetwynd rejected a three year tourism service contract bid as too costly, choosing to re-tender for six months. The Chamber of Commerce, led by Vice-President Gordon Canning after Barb Shirley's resignation, faces funding gaps as dues fail to cover staff and operating costs. Councillors question Chamber value while officials seek options with Mayor Lasser to keep the visitor information centre and tourism momentum alive. Canning and director Jim Kennedy push plans for a regional snowmobile rally, highway signage, Canada Day, and Santa Project to sustain tourism and local business.
