SAFER program aids seniors but not gas subsidies
Higher winter gas prices strain BC seniors especially in the north as landlords pass utility costs to tenants. SAFER provides direct cash for low income seniors paying over 30 percent of income in rent, totaling about 21 million dollars yearly for roughly 13 000 recipients. Eligibility includes aged 63 plus, Old Age Security, long-term Canadian residence, and private market rents. Nominations Open for Order of British Columbia Honor
