Canfor Slashes Production Across Most Operations
Canfor Corp announced Christmas shutdowns across its operations in the Prince George area and beyond. Lumber and panel output will drop by millions of board feet and square feet, with Takama plywood in Fort Nelson cutting back to five days a week from Jan. 2, eliminating 80 jobs. Sawmills in Isle Pierre and PG, plus North Central Plywood, pause for a three day holiday period, while other mills shut for varying durations to balance inventory and reduce losses amid weak prices, a high loonie, and export taxes.
