Poems reflect how snow leaves prints and trails across cities and yards while a memorial service blends with civic events. Florence Steelman urges beauty in the marks we make daily as community groups honor departed members and host seasonal gatherings. D Burnham family hosted a dinner party welcoming Mrs Burns and relatives from Drapto Australia.
The annual Dawson Creek festival adds new sections including rock bands painting ceramics and photography for March 1973 with past participants returning to enjoy vocal and instrumental music plays creative writing and extensive dance categories. Adjudicators confirmed include Miss Betty Caplette for Dance Mr Richard Kitchen for Instrumental Mrs Eileen Parker for Speech and Mr Cyril Mossop for Vocal with a syllabus available by Box 2000 Dawson Creek BC.
Hotel Chetwynd manager J. Jackman hosted a Saturday dinner for Aha Australian Miners and Engineers as guests of honor prior to their departure for home. Invited guests included Coalition Mining personnel, Mr. J.
Merchants in Chetwynd publish Christmas Week hours with openings till 9 p.m. on December 20 21 and 22 and an early closing on December 23, with closures December 25 26 and January 1 1973. Public Library doors stay shut on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Stewart of the Chamber of Commerce and Mrs Bunne Hoffman report on the miners farewell gifts to seven Australians including N L Drury and John Bailey with thanks to Coalition Mines and Hotel Chetwynd for the send off.
In Chetwynd Hope, 64.8 percent of eligible voters turned out to elect two aldermen. Incumbent Ernie Pfanner won 158 votes, Mrs L Lennox 132, with Willard Dunn 115, Ray Rebagliati 87, and Frank Wood 20. Lennox was backed by the Action Group promising paved streets and clean water within a year.
The Ch etwynd Chamber of Commerce schedules Civic Night for January 10 1973 with a guest speaker. Officers elected for 1973 include President John Jackman and Secretary Larry Tuck. Light Up contest judging occurs the week before Christmas with prizes for residential and commercial entries and a Citizen of the Year plaque.
Wayne Robert Harris of Groundbirch BC was fined 50 dollars for two charges under the colored gas act. Ron Miller of Dawson Creek was fined for having blood.
Legion members in Chetwynd Branch 258 held a December 7 meeting with Zone Commander M R Laloge installing the 1973 executive. Officers include President Irene Campbell and Secretary Gayle Tuck among others. fines were issued in separate incidents and a November 30 accident reported on Highway 29. BC Railway carloadings in November rose 16.3 percent to 11 800 with gains across agricultural products asbestos logs lumber and more. year-to-date loadings reached 120 990.
B C Tel urges customers to prebook overseas Christmas calls. Trans Pacific and some Trans Atlantic reservations are taken for December 24 and 25 only, with other days on demand. North America and many Europe and South America points are excluded. Trans Pacific bookings to Australia New Zealand and the Philippines are accepted. Reservations close December 22.
