Canfor shuts down burner in Chetwynd air fight
Rick Davison reports Canfor halted its outdoor wood waste burner in Chetwynd as of November 30, citing health concerns and provincial orders. About 60 percent of burn residue is whitewood sent to Mackenzie for pulping, while 40 percent bark is burned at a West Fraser plant. Cantor manager Michael Jordan says the $4 million upgrade separates whitewood and bark, creates trucking jobs, and buys time to find alternatives for bark utilization.
