Shoppers with receipts from Dec 1 to 18 at participating stores can enter a prize draw worth over 1400 dollars by visiting the Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Centre during business hours. Draw is Dec 19 at 9am. Residential and business Christmas Light up Contest runs Dec 1 to 12 with judging Dec 15 to 18. Alberta Energy Regulator reports about 60 000 litres of crude oil spilled from a CNRL pipeline into muskeg near Red Earth Creek in northern Alberta about 160 km west of Peace River. Incident caused by a mechanical failure on Nov 27. Cleanup started, wildlife impact unknown, access hindered by bad weather.
Chetwynd hosts its first Christmas farmers market with a strong turnout. Susan Becker, president, notes generous donations of food toys and cash. All toys went to the Christmas Bureau Society and food to local food banks. Vendors report solid sales and plan to return next year.
