The Peace River Regional District plans a report for the board in November on a building bylaw. It has sent letters to municipalities fire departments banks insurance firms and school districts seeking input on whether to discontinue the bylaw's inspection component. The non binding referendum will gauge public opinion but cannot bind a decision.
WMEN councillor says timing and due diligence halted a land purchase in Chetwynd. He cites concerns over potential Phase 2 Environmental Assessment needs due to past gas stations and a sputtering local economy. The plan may resume if the community approves further information and safeguards. WMFN owns three apartment buildings in Chetwynd. district declined comment.
BC Hydro declines to comment on Site C project details including a found Aboriginal burial site and how it will be avoided. A 2009 report for BC Hydro listed 337 archaeological sites with 27 historic sites and multiple paleontological finds set to be affected. First Nations say Peter Attachie’s remains lie within the area but won’t be impacted by site prep. Construction began July 27 as First Nations seek a favorable court ruling and a two day hearing nears completion with possible delayed judgment.
