Liberals wipe out NDP initiatives in British Columbia
In Victoria, Attorney General Geoff Plant introduced a single act erasing several NDP measures from the last session. The repeal includes the whistleblower protection SLAPP law, pay equity for private business, and plans for universal child care, plus a delay in appointing a Children and Family Advocate. The move also retroactively raises five caucus chairs’ salaries by 6,000 each and signals review of independent watchdog offices. Adriane Carr of the Green Party warns the change reduces citizen protections against corporate lawsuits and independent oversight.
