Provinces offer Power Smart to pulp producers after Site C concerns
Paper Excellence Chetwynd and six other BC pulp and paper operations will gain from a new Power Smart program to cut electricity costs by funding up to 75 percent of project costs. The plan aims to reduce demand by 300 gigawatt hours and save $17.5 million annually while avoiding new generation and potentially trimming ratepayer costs. BC Hydro and Energy Mines officials, including Bill Bennett and Jessica McDonald, announced the measure days after major industrial power users criticized Site C.
