The Chetwynd Echo marks 50 years in print with an August series of interviews featuring four former Echo staffers. This week editor Max Fawcett talks with Keith Massey, once managing editor at rival Pioneer, about their time behind the press and future of the business.
A longtime advertising seller recalls joining the Pioneer when it had ten directors to challenge the Echo in a town newspaper war. He rose to managing editor, expanded circulation, and developed ad campaigns, including nose-themed promotions. He worried about two papers, urged online presence, and noted the shift from weekly to daily news.
