Bears in Chetwynd prompted advice on safe trails
Residents urged to noise alarms and wave arms when bears appear on trails to warn animals of humans. Do not run, back away slowly, and keep distance. Lister notes greenbelts funnel bears into town and waste sites attract them. Proper garbage and barbecue maintenance is advised to prevent bear encounters and reduce need to kill bears. Contact Conservation Officers for sightings.
