Three sites named for wind power in British Columbia
BC Hydro data identifies Rumble Ridge Port Alice Wartenbe near Chetwynd and Bear Mountain near Dawson Creek as best wind sites with seven metre per second average wind. Each turbine could produce one to two megawatts, enough for about 2,000 homes, with potential ten to twenty megawatts from multiple units.

Wind power projects face high costs and transmission hurdles
BC Energy Ministry released a report showing wind power projects, if developed privately, could proceed without BC Hydro subsidies but would need costly turbines and tall towers. The Independent Power Producers Association notes wind energy remains pricey, with one megawatt hour costs of 2 to 3 million dollars for wind versus 1.4 to 2 million for hydro. Transmission lines are scarce in remote sites atop mountains or island edges. The study also includes data from a wave energy site off Ucluelet, open until April 2004.
