On April 23 the Hudson's Hope Municipal Council viewed the injuries of a two and a half year old after several dogs running at large mauled the child near the post office. The face required eighteen stitches and the owner killed one dog that was tethered but broke free to join the pack.
A council letter to the R C M P urges action against dogs at large under the Domestic Animal Protection Act after a child was attacked. The meeting also notes a new general contracting license for L Kountz moving from McBride to Hudson's Hope, a public water extension discussion with costs over 390000, vandal damage at Lion's Park, and plans for anti litter week with litter containers and garbage bags for clubs.
Deadline for submitting 1974 tax returns looms with reminders amid a string of local society notes. Bernice Tracey and son Terry return from a week at Upper Fraser. visitors include D Dorosh and Grovnus partygoers from several towns. A Chetwynd Lions anniversary, Boy Scout venturers trek, and a birthday surprise for Mary Paynter are reported along with other social updates.
The Provincial Review Board recommended a library for Chetwynd to be built between the High School and Windrem Elementary. The 2250 sq ft library plus entrance will cost about $128,000 with construction expected in 1976. Mill rate for School Dist No 59 is set at 33.3, below the provincial average of 41.3.
The Chetwynd Area Community Resources Society CACRS needs a new board member as chair Betty Burton leaves the district. The 10 member board becomes 9 after her departure with vice chair Malcolm Calliou moving into the chair role. Board members are volunteers expanding and improving local services and developing new ones.
Festival of sports at B C Yard on Saturday May 17 1975 draws 1000 plus attendees. This year aims for a bigger event with multiple disciplines led by chairmen including Philip Gladue Johnny Livingstone Wayne Asleson Pete Demeulemeester Don Kelly Billy Robinson Ron Tanner John Livingston Wayne Asleson Willie Hauber Francis Wilson and others.
The Chetwynd Volunteer Fire Department will hose 51st Street during Spring Clean-Up at 7:00 p.m. on May 5, 1975, and residents are asked not to park there. Officials include Chief Asleson, Stu Grant assisting, Peace Wood Products, and Johnny Livingston. Also notes Loggers Sports Day starts at noon with 16 plus participants, entry by 11:00 a.m., events include lawn cross cut and power saws, with trophies and cash prizes. contact John Jackman or Stu Grant for details.
At an April 15 1975 council session villagers faced vandal damage with about 32 signs destroyed and total costs around 1200 dollars. The council passed a resolution to reward 100 dollars for information leading to convictions and urged residents and police to curb further acts.
The Associated Chamber of Commerce announces the B C Museum Train will visit Chetwynd on July 30, Dawson Creek from July 31 to August 3, and Mackenzie on August 6. The large display includes steam locomotive and tender, water car, boxcar, two flatcars, two exhibit coaches, a theatre coach, and a crew car. The 1975 16 exhibit theme is Steampower and British Columbia 1830s 1950s.
