Little Prairie Clan Shapes Early Growth in the 1950s
In fall 1954 Dougal Campbell arrived with his family as Walter and Leslie Brun diged in, and the Embree brothers moved to Chelywnd during the 1950s boom. The Gerstel family visited for a wedding in July 1955 and stayed, while Stan Kurjata built Stan’s Service and later opened a Phillips 66 bulk plant in 1957. The period saw coffee at Kurjata’s and community gatherings as locals connected through family ties and growing commerce.
