Developers expect construction to start around May 15 in Chetwynd for a two and a half million dollar mall of about 80 000 square feet. The project may open two thirds by October with the rest next year and will host about 20 outlets including a bowling alley a mini theatre a supermarket and a drug store with mostly local subcontractors.
A 1974 notice records drivers paying voluntary fines for offenses under various motor vehicle and tax acts, including Robert James McClarty and Albert Anderson. It also notes Florence Munch found guilty of common assault, granted absolute discharge, and dismissals for Rodney Supernault and Gary Munch in cases linked to the Chetwynd Hotel incident.
A summer figure skating school is planned in Chetwynd this year pending continued interest. Details of organization and schedule were to be continued on page 2.
Jan Hanson and her students produced a tap and jazz show enjoyed by parents and friends in the packed auditorium last Saturday. Simple costumes and stage decor tied to the modern routines. A grand finale featured smiling faces and a teacher student dance number. Awards were presented by Hanson with gifts to backstage mothers.
Rosettes for perfect attendance mark five years at tendance from 1969 to 1974 Christine Hoffman Jr and Christine Granberg Sr. Outstanding Achievement plaques go to Connie Bonetti Leola Gagnon for over eleven years. Missed only one lesson this year lists readers from Chetwynd and Hudsons Hope. Perfect Attendance honors name many staff including Kim Anderson Melanie Berlinger Connie Bonetti Tanya Clary Debbie Clary and more.
The Regulations governing sanitation and operation of food premises were amended by Order-in-Council No 788 in March 1974 to ensure volunteer caterers and groups serving food to the public or other nonmember groups meet modern handling practices and have adequate equipment. It notes about 100,000 annual Canadian food borne illness cases tied to processing, storage, and dispensing and stresses control over voluntary catering to prevent outbreaks.
Judge Marvin Lundeen was officially sworn in as a provincial court judge Monday by District Judge David Levis. He will hear cases in Dawson Creek Fort St. John Chetwynd Hudsons Hope and other northeastern areas as the first locally born lawyer on the bench. Lundeen a UBC Law graduate began practice in Dawson Creek in 1951 and serves as a governor of the BC Law Foundation and a director of Legal Aid. His wife Frances and three children are noted for their community involvement and varied plans.
The Lions Club held a Ladies Night at a last supper meeting featuring Fred Koalenz CNIB District Administrator. He spoke on challenges facing the blind, the value of training, and how remaining senses aid independence. He noted CNIB funds from government grants appeals and donations. He urged members to support the blind and Lions. The issue included a religious verse reflecting on Jesus and contemporary attitudes.
