Chetwynd Students Embark On Russia Travel Trip
Norm Picce Lori Parminter Lesley Mackie and Tammy Martin head to Russia on a New World Educational Travel Program with 21 students and chaperons from Dawson Creek. They will stop in London for three days then visit Leningrad Yalta Kiev and Moscow over two weeks, return to London for two days with Pen Pals, then go home while meeting again to share photos and slides.

Budget hits working poor as BC tax plan lifts costs
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of B C says the 1988 89 budget increases costs for the average family while sparing upper income earners. Finance Minister Mel Couvelier introduced the budget which adds fees and small tax hikes to raise about 11 million dollars in a total 11.8 billion dollar package. The biggest rises hit medical premiums gasoline alcohol and tobacco with estimates placing added annual costs for a typical four person, 27000 dollar income family at about 530 dollars.

1988 British Columbia Budget Highlights
The 1988 BC budget projects 2.7 percent economic growth and 4.5 percent employment rise. Revenue measures total 355 million for 1988/89 with a 1.343 million increase from 87/88. Tax changes include higher sales tax on beer, alcohol and tobacco, adjusted property taxes for business, motor fuel, and rural areas, plus cuts in small business tax and a 50 percent tourist accommodation deduction up to 150000.
California tourists to visit Chetwynd on winter train trip
Norman Piice of Mountain Outing Tours says B C Rail approved a February 1989 special train to Chetwynd for about 100 passengers from California. The winter sightseeing excursion includes two nights in Chetwynd with a Tuesday Fort St. John round trip and a Wednesday departure, and a welcome planned by the Chamber of Commerce.
