Coin Found in Oak Tree in Warrenton
A silver 75 cent coin, possibly French or Spanish and dated 174, was found buried inside a white oak by Mr. Joseph Gaicaenmoos in Warrenton. The coin, wrapped in decayed paper, showed heavy wear and appeared long buried, with only a few legible letters remaining on the wrapper. The circumstances of its placement remain a mystery. Nearby, a clerk’s joke about a stocking size numbered purchase leads to a humorous exchange with a customer who compares herself to a centipede.
