Fatal shooting on Astoria fishing boat in July incident

Insurgent attack disrupts Havana to San Jose road
On June 29 a band of insurgents stopped a Havana to San Jose des Lajas stage. Eighteen scouts and six guerillas were killed, along with a Spanish doctor and a carpenter and three passengers who tried to flee. The coach spared only a woman and a child. Insurgents seized $17,000 in medicine and $8,000 in cash plus two carts of provisions. General Weyler freed 14 women and 15 children captured in an insurgent camp.
