In September a party of colored soldiers from the Twenty-fifth United States Infantry rode bicycles from Fort Missoula toward Helena, carrying rations, tents, and ammunition for a simulated campaign. The 1100 mile journey tested durability over rough terrain, with no wheel or rider failing, led by Lt. Moss who calls the expedition a success and envisions a bicycle corps in every regiment.
