N P WINS 91 Tax Suits In Tacoma Court

Judge Hanford of the U S circuit court at Tacoma ruled Friday in Lewis County’s bid to collect 1591 taxes on lands sold by the Northern Pacific. The decision favors the railroad on the tax liability question while upholding the county’s right to tax the lands, with about $10 000 in total taxes involved. The ruling notes defective assessments and notice as grounds for dismissing the county’s action, and grants a temporary injunction against the county treasurer. Attorneys F M Dudley Crowley Grosscup for the railroad and Johnson Nickells for county officials argued the case.
