In Checotah voters approved a $40,000 sewer bond issue by 176 to 36. Bonds run 25 years at 6 percent. bids for construction soon. work to start quickly and finish within about 90 days. Cotton in the Independent gin caught fire Monday causing damage. fire department responded and limited the loss.

Muskogee Fair Delights Crowds and Racing Fans

Large turnout from Fair visitors and Checotah residents praised this week’s Muskogee fair. Officials reported stronger than expected success, with racing events drawing attention from horse enthusiasts. Noted horses Dan Patch, Miner Heir and others attracted admiration from spectators.

Death of Checotah resident W B Lancaster from blood poisoning

W B Lancaster dies at Muskogee hospital after a one week illness caused by blood poisoning from a hand injury and fly bite. The Checotah man, known as Happy, leaves a wife and daughter traveling from the east. Funeral plans not set. He was active in I C O F Woodmen and other fraternities. neighbors note his cheerful, friendly nature.

City Council Proceedings Report October Meeting

The city council held a regular session Thursday night. The finance committee endorsed numerous claims including Smooth on Mfg Co, Jess Dunbar, C C Ratcliffe, Hutchinson Met Co, Checotah Water Light Ice Co, and others. A railway flagman note from M K & T was discussed and referred to ordinance committee. The clerk was named city buyer and ordered to obtain the 1910 tax roll for all polling places ahead of adjournment to October 14.

Forsyth Family Heads to Sulphur for Winter Stay

H L Forsyth and family left Saturday for Sulphur Oklahoma where Mrs Forsyth and the children will spend the winter at the famed health resort. They expect to return to Checotah in spring much improved in health.

The Checotah lodge plans a regular meeting with sixteen victims for the Odd Fellows goat. A deputy’s trial for killing and shooting in Eufaula ended with a not guilty verdict after four minutes. Mrs. Cook and daughter arrive from Fayetteville to join Mr. Cook. T. B. Jones returns from Jonesdale to begin building on LaFayette avenue. Two 12 foot cotton stalks from Hagie Thompson farm on display at La Fayette & Bro.'s. Nance transports them. Prof. R C Patterson, Republican candidate for superintendent, ceases Pierce school and vows to campaign across McIntosh County for November 8.
